Quick Update: Still Waiting…
We have had tons of request from all over to provide ANY information on the current standing of the 12th District race. So here is what we know:
Right now we are waiting on all 22 county officials and Secretary of State Cathy Cox to certify the election results. The deadline for certification is tomorrow, so we should know in the next 24 to 36 hours.
At that point, the difference will be so close (probably within 500 votes) that it will force an automatic recount, which should begin by Friday. From there, we have no idea how long the recount takes or what happens next and we do not want to speculate.
We will let you know when we have more.

As I read it, the SOS shows a 930 vote spread as of 5pm on Tuesday. Where do we expect the votes to come from in the next 24 hours to draw the race to within 500 votes?
Thought I would share this link

Thomas,
Great point. The results are in according to the link above, and it looks like Barrow leads by just over 800 votes.
it’s over. Barrow was declared the winner
theres no way a recount is going to get over 800 votes in Burns’s favor.
Burns lost. and this site’s mean-spirited, sleazy tone didnt help. Neither did Burn’s support for the pie-in-the-sky, unrealistic FairTax.
then again if wide spread gerrymandering and a visit from the President himself couldnt get Burns elected, i dont know what could.
to this websites admin: you may have aided greatly in Burn’s demise. Are you aware you linked to Chapter 9 of the Presidential Tax Reform Panel report, a report that calls the FairTax poorly researched and inadequete to bring in even half the revenue it claims to at it’s rate. why would you knowingly point the public to harsh, official criticism of a bill Burns was a co-signer of? pretty bad move. it may have cost Burns a chunk. Barrow was featuring tax reform in his ads, after all.
now the recount: what was it all your republicans were saying when Gore demanded a recount? I guess you were against them before you were for them.
Wow. Nicely put, overtime. While I agree with most of everything you’ve said, I think you’re giving a little too much credit to this Web site. But what do I know? Anyway, thanks for the post. I think it says it all.
The Republicans can accept it when they lose. Even if they are losing by less than 3/10 of 1%. In case you haven’t noticed most of us have gone on with our lives and are preparing for next election instead of sending lawyers out and still running ads (like a Democrat who lost by 7500 votes is doing in Ohio). We can accept the will of the people and are not sore losers like Democrats who have trying as hard as they can for six years to get back at the President for actually winning in 2000. Obviously your previous comments show that you haven’t gotten over it either. Good campaign, Max! Keep working hard and we’ll get ‘em in ‘08.
Good point BDEUGA. Look at what the dems are doing in Florida where they lost a congressional race by over 400 votes but are now bringing in D.C. operatives and complaining that their were to many under votes, so the results must not be legitimate. Funny how these electronic voting machines only work when dems win!
It was to bad that Max (and Mac Collins) ran in a year when the national voting trends were running against the GOP (thanks to Bush’s mishandling of Iraq). I think in two years they’ll both win if they run again!
overtime,
Barrow blatently lied, over-and-over again, about the findings in that executive panel report. End of story. Spin it however you want but you’ll always be wrong. The only people who believed that, a. the report actually said even HALF of the crap Barrow claimed, and b. Burns didn’t have MAJOR gripes with certain elements of the Fair Tax, were misinformed and would have voted for Barrow anyway.
Luke,
I hate you. You’re no longer my drinking buddy. I hope you have woman troubles for the rest of your life. Anyway, thanks for bringing some lefty-love to the site over the past weeks. You know… adding to the whole “arena of debate” stuff, etc.
But enough of all this. We’re going to put the partisan stuff away for at least a few weeks so we can recover.
And we understand that finger pointing is natural after a loss. People who want to say we (Blogging for Max) did or did not help the campaign are free to do so. I hope we helped Max because, after all, that was our goal. But the race is over now, and we wish Barrow the best.
Max Burns is one of the most wonderful men I have ever had the benefit of meeting, and I truly mean it when I say that it was an honor and a privilege. We thank Max and Lora, Tim Baker, Allen Muldrew, and everyone else on the campaign for allowing us to cover this race and be a part of such a close battle for the future of America.
Until next time… ’tis the season, y’all!
I love you too, Fogle.
